Renowned Filipino Historian, Dr. Samuel K. Tan, passes away at 88.

A native of Siasi, Sulu, Chinese-Filipino, Dr. Samuel K. Tan used to be a Department Chair of History for the University of the Philippines in Diliman. He was also once the Chairman-Executive Director of the National Historical Institute (NHI) and Commissioner of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) from 1997 to 1998; and Commissioner of the National Centennial Commission from 1997 to 1999.

Dr. Tan authored 23 books about Filipino Muslims and 27 editions of Philippine History. He was also known for his works on the Chinese-Filipinos in Mindanao. As an early member of the Philippine Association for Chinese Studies (PACS), he also contributed to the Chinese Studies Journal about the successful integration of the Chinese in Siasi, Sulu, published by PACS.

The Philippine Association for Chinese Studies is in mourning with the history and culture community of the country in the passing of Dr. Samuel K. Tan.
