The Philippine Association for Chinese Studies hosted a webinar featuring Jaime FlorCruz speaking on “My 50-Year China Journey in 30 Objects” on August 18, 2021,  narrating five decades of contemporary Chinese History through the lens of a Filipino who lived in China.

Mr. Jaime FlorCruz is currently an adjunct professor at Peking University and Former Beijing Bureau Chief for CNN and Time Magazine. He looked back on his journey and used 30 objects that reminded him of important events in his life. He divided his story into five sections: Red China, Beijing Spring, Open China, Backlash and Crackdown Period, and the Present Day China.

The presentation was followed by a Question and  Answer session in which the participants curiously asked about his exiled years, the Tiananmen Square Protest, Philippine Media in regards to the Chinese Government and Territorial Dispute with China, and lessons from China in terms of the Social and Economic Development of the Philippines.

The webinar was moderated by Dr. Jely Galang and drew 86 attendees for the live presentation, and a recording of the discussion is posted online for viewing on PACS Facebook page (https://fb.watch/7sFInQm_tk/). For information about PACS upcoming webinars, visit https://www.pacs.ph/ucpoming-events/.
